The Most Beginner-Friendly Pieces of Gym Equipment

Beginner-Friendly

Knowing where to start when it comes to gym equipment isn’t easy. Everything looks intimidating, and it can overwhelm those who don’t know where to begin a proper workout regimen. Fortunately, we’ve found what we consider to be the most beginner-friendly pieces of gym equipment to help you get started.

Leg Press Machine

One of the most common running gags of working out is the phrase “don’t skip leg day.” Luckily, one of the most accessible machines for newcomers makes it easy to work leg day into your routine. Like doing squats, the leg press machine allows people to exercise their calves and legs. However, they feature additional weight for increased gains and a sitting position to put less strain on your body.

Treadmill

The treadmill is practically the mascot of gym equipment. If you know how to walk, you can use this piece of equipment. Treadmills are great when starting a weight loss routine and allow those exercising to adjust factors such as speed and incline for an additional challenge. It wasn’t always easy to get on the treadmill and run during Covid-19, but running will always be an option for those that are able.

Chest Press Machine

The chest press machine is one of the most beginner-friendly pieces of gym equipment since it works your pecs, deltoids, and triceps. When I started working out, I thought I just had to do some push-ups, but I was putting unnecessary strain on my wrists and struggled to get much exercise in. Using a chest press machine is a great way to strengthen these critical muscles, making it easier to perform other exercises down the road.

Ergometer

The ergometer is more commonly known as a rowing machine, and it’s a great way to exercise your calves and hamstrings. The most crucial thing with using the ergometer is knowing you’re doing it right to get the full effect of your workout. You want to push with your legs, lean backward, then pull your arms toward your lower ribs. It might seem tricky, but once you master the rowing motion, you’ll find it great for your workout routine.

Dumbbells

You could argue that dumbbells aren’t equipment, but one should never underestimate the power these little free weights can bring to a workout. Most people associate dumbbells with bicep curls, but they have the potential to do so much more for you. Good starting exercises to incorporate your dumbbells into are squats and lunges.
