Find yourself thinking about dropping weight while you watch the ball drop?
You’re not alone if you find yourself analyzing your mid-section and comparing yourself to your sequined party guests when the clock chimes twelve. But after sleeping off the bubbly from the night before, will your resolve be as strong or will you slip back into old habits as easily as you slip into a pair of elastic sweatpants?
Don’t just make another New Year’s resolution that you’ll break by February. This year, a January make-and-break diet is one tradition you should choose to skip. The key to taking control of your body is to have a plan. Do your research online. Do you have a friend with an enviable weight loss story? Take him or her out to lunch — at your local hummus hut, of course — and find out what tactics worked for them.
And while we’re on the topic of friends, strongly consider getting a close friend on board for your 2012 plan. Having a workout and diet buddy can spell the difference between caving to a midnight craving or sticking to your guns. For one thing, you have someone to call when you want to quit. You also have someone to eat hummus with you. And, you’ve got someone else riding your conscience if you feel like quitting. Nothing like a little guilt to keep you motivated!
Lack of confidence preventing that midnight make-out?
Your mother was right – you’ve got great inner beauty. But let’s be honest, true confidence also includes feeling good about the way you look. And if you think that includes losing a few inches, what are you waiting for? You deserve to feel good in your own skin.
When you feel good about yourself, people can tell – and confidence attracts the opposite gender like honeybees to the hive. If holding your tummy in is holding you back from working the crowd, it’s time to make a change. Your mother would agree with us on this one – you deserve better than a lonely glass of champagne with the wallpaper when the countdown dwindles to zero.
Get down to work this year and let your only concern at 11:59 p.m. next year be an ample supply of lip balm and breath mints. You can’t beat the ease of mind you’ll feel when your own gold sequined party dress and confident smile are competing with the best of them. Even the most dedicated sugarholics have to admit a little holiday lip action sounds more appealing than a third helping of leftover Christmas fudge.
