Diet plans saturate the fitness and wellness world, promising to improve our health and satisfaction. The truth is that no single diet will work for everyone. Your body is unique, and therefore your diet should be unique. When you approach dieting as eating intentionally per your body’s unique needs, the idea becomes more manageable and healthier. Learn how to find a diet that works best for you below.

Understand Macro- and Micronutrients

The foundation of any effective diet lies in understanding macro- and micronutrients. Macronutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, all of which play pivotal roles in fueling your body and supporting various bodily functions. Meanwhile, micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, are equally important for maintaining health and preventing disease. Grasping the roles and importance of these nutrients allows you to make informed choices about what to include in your diet to ensure it is balanced and fulfills your body’s requirements.

Do Your Research on Different Diets

Before you can identify the diet that works best for you, commit time to research the myriad of diets available. To be clear, we’re not suggesting you do this to find one and stick to it. Your research should be with the goal of understanding why different diets exist and how their approach might be beneficial for your health. From plant-based diets to ketogenic plans, each has its benefits and potential drawbacks depending on individual health goals, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors.

You might see some of the benefits of a high-protein, low-carb diet like the keto diet but want to modify it. Likewise, you might feel drawn to a vegan diet but are allergic to foundational plant-based protein sources like tofu. By understanding the principles and outcomes associated with different diets, you can find ones that resonate with your personal preferences and nutritional needs, borrowing and adapting them to yourself.

Prioritize Your Unique Needs Above All Else

On the topic of adapting to yourself, prioritize your unique needs above all else. Consider your lifestyle, any existing health conditions, and your specific health goals. A diet that works wonders for one person might not yield the same results for another due to differences in metabolism, food sensitivities, and daily energy expenditure. For instance, you should avoid certain foods if you have diabetes, but these foods could be very nutritious for individuals without diabetes. Customize your diet plan by considering your individual factors to ensure it supports your overall well-being and allows you to achieve your desired health outcomes.

Understand Why You’re Committing to Intentional Eating

Understanding why you’re committing to intentional eating can significantly influence your success. Whether your goal is to improve heart health, lose weight, or enhance physical performance, having clear, health-driven motivations will help you stay committed to your chosen diet. And remember—a diet is simply what you eat. It’s not a rulebook meant to restrict your food choices; it’s a set of guidelines meant to foster your health. By remembering your goal and staying positive about your food choices, you can stay committed to finding the diet that works best for you.

Researchers finally confirm what I’ve been saying forever: large amounts of diet cola are healthy! Well, the study did not go that far, but the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Health and Wellness Center has determined that people attempting a weight loss program might be aided by drinks like Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi.

Dr. Jim Hill and his team designed a program that measured a sample of people throughout a 12-week time period. The individuals who participated in the study were divided into what I call the “not gonna happen” and “thank goodness I’m not in the other group” categories: those not allowed to drink artificially-sweetened beverages and others who were not limited from the sweet, sweet taste of Diet Mt. Dew. It was ultimately discovered that people directed to only consume water experienced a weight loss total that averaged 4 lbs. less than the lucky sampling — 9 lbs. vs. 13 lbs.

The study was funded by the American Beverage Association, and though the results were not surprising to Hill, the long-term possibilities for diet drinks and weight loss still need to be determined. The study did not factor in calorie counts or other similar measures of weight loss success. However, as Hill told Denver’s FOX 31 KDVR, he believes the effectiveness of allowing people to continue to enjoy diet sodas during waist trimming is due to it being “harder for the water group to adhere to the overall diet than the (artificially sweetened beverage) group.” Instead of needing the willpower to watch what you eat and drink, as well as start an exercise program, the diet soda group could focus on fewer life changes (i.e., didn’t have to cut our their favorite drinks) brought about by weight loss.

Now, if we can only convince researchers to confirm my other weight loss suspicion: pizza is the single best food to boost your body’s internal engines. Call me, PizzaHutU!

Now aside from cancer being the best zodiac sign o them all, it also has a pretty bad connotation. So bad, that the word alone is enough to strike fear in us all. This mysterious disease has taken the life o so many, and despite the million spent on research, the cure is still unknown.

Recently, I had a family member who was diagnosed with cancer. Breast cancer to be exact. The first thing I did when I found out was Pray, but the second thing was refer to an article I had seen on Facebook a while back.

The article highlighted a diet that would in more or less words “starve” the cancer. Pretty cool, huh?

So, after I sent her the link, I thought that it would be a great idea to share the diet with my readers. Rather you know someone with cancer, have it yourself, or just want to try it out for possible prevention benefits, it definitely is worth giving it a go. Let’s begin!

What cancer cells feed on:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Note: Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells will starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water–best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

f. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines will become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

g. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

h. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

SOME TIPS:

-Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.

-Anger, unforgiving and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

-Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

The best diet I’ve ever seen. The info is from John Hopkins. Enjoy!

According to the latest study, multivitamins may be able to reduce your risk of cancer but they have no effect on heart disease. A group of researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital undertook a long term study in which they had a group of 15,000 male physicians, age 50 and over, take Centrum Silver multivitamins or a placebo every day for about 11 years. They found that the vitamins had no effect on risk of heart attack, stroke or heart disease.

In discussing the results, study leader Howard Sesso said; “The way we view this study is that there’s no obvious reason to take a daily multivitamin solely for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. But it’s perhaps narrow-minded to think that we shouldn’t take multivitamins at all considering our findings with cancer prevention.”

While the findings were disappointing in regards to heart health, the study did discover that those who took a daily multivitamin were able to lower their cancer risk by about 8%.

The study serves as a reminder that there is no quick fix to lower the risk of heart disease. In an editorial that accompanied the study Dr. Eva Lonn went on to say; “many people with heart disease risk factors…lead sedentary lifestyles, eat processed or fast foods, continue to smoke, and stop taking life-saving prescribed medications, but purchase and regularly use vitamins and other dietary supplements, in the hope that this approach will prevent a future myocardial infarction or stroke. This distraction from effective cardiovascular disease prevention is the main hazard of using vitamins and other unproven supplements.”

The best way to prevent heart disease lies mainly in lifestyle changes. Adding whole grains, fruits and vegetables to your diet, exercising regularly, and limiting smoking and alcohol consumption are still the most effective ways to cut the risk of heart attack or stroke.

A recent study has identified a substance in the form of a protein that is responsible for the regulation of the utilization of brown fat in the body cells and in the brain that may just be effective in weight loss.

Brown fat is a kind of adipose tissue, which is different from white fat in terms of its mechanism. Brown fat is used by the body to burn fats in order to generate energy and heat. Thermogenesis is the conversion of brown fat to heat and energy.

Who done the research?

The study was done by a group of scientists at the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge Metabolic Research Laboratories. The researchers have found that BMP8B protein acts on the metabolic process in the body, both in the body cells and in the brain, which is responsible for the utilization of brown fat.

How research was done?

The results of the study have led to the belief by the researchers that activation of brown fat may help people on their weight loss programs. The new protein found may be a specific target for weight loss treatments because it specifically acts on brown fat unlike other proteins that have a role to play in various body processes. Since BMP8B has a specific action in regulating the activity of brown fat in the production of heat and energy. Using BMP8B in new weight loss therapies may be effective in achieving the desired weight loss results.

The research involved the use of mice as experimental subjects. The researchers had observed that mice that lack the BMP8B protein tend to be more obese than mice that have the protein. In addition, mice that lack the protein also have difficulty maintaining their body temperature. Mice that lack the protein also became obese when they were fed a high fat diet as compared to mice that normally have the protein. Aside from this, mice that were given BMP8B lost weight significantly as opposed to those that did not receive the protein.

Several weight loss remedies that increase the metabolic rate also increase the need for food, which in turn causes failure of the weight loss treatment. However, in the use of BMP8B protein, the metabolic rate increases, but there is no resulting increase in appetite in mice meaning that this may be a potential weight loss remedy that may outlast the effects of early weight loss remedies. The BMP8B protein seems only to enhance the burning of fat rather than stimulating the mice to eat more.

The results of the study are only preliminary because there are obvious differences between humans and mice. Further research still needs to be conducted to study the efficacy of the BMP8B protein for human use in weight loss. Nevertheless, people who want to lose weight may still benefit from the results of the study. There are other weight loss remedies that focus on burning fat, so while waiting for the BMP8B protein to be evaluated further, people can use other fat burning remedies in the meantime.

Actually, that’s not true. According to the latest BMI calculators, I’m obese. I don’t believe it and, quite honestly, you can’t make me. I wear a size 12, I’m 5’6” tall and my waist band is a comfortable 32”. Yes, that may be an over share but I want you to understand that I’m not delusional. I simply do not buy into the fact that I can plug my height and weight into some miscellaneous calculator on the internet and be labeled obese. I am not obese.

Admittedly, though, I could stand to lose ten or twenty pounds. At my thinnest, I was 128 and at my largest, 189. I have been at my current weight, 150, for several years without dieting or watching what I shove into my face. I like to think that this is where my body is comfortable. And, at closer to 40 than 30, I’ve learned to be satisfied with what I look like. Somewhat.

Move over Atkins and get out of the way Jenny, here is how I plan to lose ten pounds. If you consider my ways, I think you’ll find them quite doable. You might even consider joining me in my quest to be labeled as merely overweight.

Cook for One
I have a tough time cooking for myself. I always cook like I’m feeding an army of men. I plan on cooking less or, at the very least, freezing more. Better yet, I’ll not cook at all and stick to bowls of cereal. Or Chinese take-away. Coming from a family of four, I’ve not quite mastered the art of cooking small meals and, because there are starving kids in China, I tend to eat what I cook.

Use Smaller Plates
I’ve traveled to England and France and the difference in the way the stick-thin eat is amazingly simple. They don’t use Frisbees for plates. In both countries, portion sizes were actual servings; not five servings heaped on a large plate and called a portion. I’m going to smash my dinner plates and use my salad plates instead. It’s got to work, right?

Step Away from the Fork
Granted, if I put down my fork I can eat with my spoon, or my knife, or my fingers for that matter. However, as an adult, I’m quite sure that I know when I’m full. Rather than eating the third piece of cheesecake because the first two were so good, I’m going to put down my fork, push myself away from the table and head off to do something else. I know, though, that the cheesecake is going to be whispering my name, fork or no fork.

Get out of the Chip Bag
I’m a bad eater. I don’t eat six small meals a day. In fact, I don’t even eat two small meals a day. I eat one large meal and then spend the rest of the day inside of a bag of chips. If we’re being honest, it would probably be easier for me to just strap the chips to my head like a feedbag. So, instead of grazing on chips and pretzels all day long, I’m going to make myself cook several small meals throughout the day. Or eat several bowls of carrots throughout the day. Whatever works, right?

Get off My Butt
I’m not lazy. I work two jobs and go to school full-time. Somehow, that movement isn’t enough to help me shed weight. Ridiculous! Instead of driving my car a block away to buy my chips, I’m going to walk. And buy a box of cereal. Or maybe I’ll ride my bike. But I definitely won’t drive my car.
Point is, get moving and eat less. Seems simple right? Apparently you burn the most fat when you’re sleeping so I am all about that concept as well. Whatever way I decide to go about it, I plan on finding the best way to bake my cake and eat it too.
