Hey guys!

Summer is quickly approaching and with that comes a lot of danger. Now, I know it’s no fun to talk about all the negatives of our favorite season – but we must. Now, I believe that prevention is better than redemption, especially when it comes to protecting ourselves this year. With that being said, I wanted to share with you 3 helpful ways to enjoy summer to the fullest, without regretting it with fall comes along.

You ready?

1. SUNSCREEN: Sunscreen at times can be a hassle to remember to put on or bring with us for our day out in the sun, but we must. What I suggest doing: Use a lotion and face moisturizer that has spf, that way you won’t “feel” like your putting it on and you’ll be protected. Just dont forget the kids!

2. WATER: Guzzling water is essential in the hotter months. Dehydration is super common, and can be very dangerous. I personally can drink water with no problem alone, but not everyone can. If not, I suggest eating fruits like watermelon or cantaloupe. You can even add flavors to your water. Also, regular smoothie and fro-yo trips are awesome! Yum!

3. SHADE: Hats and umbrellas are awesome for protecting you and yours from the dangerous UV rays that the sun provides. You can be stylish and safe at the same time! Win-win!

Warning: No tanning beds. Use tanning lotions and creams instead to give yourself a natural glow. If you tan outside, make sure to apply sunscreen every 2 hours!

These ways will ensure that you and your loved one prevent any unnecessary trips to the doctor this summer. I mean who wants to leave the beach to visit them anyways?

-Amber O.

Now aside from cancer being the best zodiac sign o them all, it also has a pretty bad connotation. So bad, that the word alone is enough to strike fear in us all. This mysterious disease has taken the life o so many, and despite the million spent on research, the cure is still unknown.

Recently, I had a family member who was diagnosed with cancer. Breast cancer to be exact. The first thing I did when I found out was Pray, but the second thing was refer to an article I had seen on Facebook a while back.

The article highlighted a diet that would in more or less words “starve” the cancer. Pretty cool, huh?

So, after I sent her the link, I thought that it would be a great idea to share the diet with my readers. Rather you know someone with cancer, have it yourself, or just want to try it out for possible prevention benefits, it definitely is worth giving it a go. Let’s begin!

What cancer cells feed on:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Note: Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells will starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water–best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

f. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines will become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

g. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

h. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

SOME TIPS:

-Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.

-Anger, unforgiving and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

-Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

The best diet I’ve ever seen. The info is from John Hopkins. Enjoy!

When you think of them, what comes to mind? Well, they are extremely healthy for us, and not to mention absolutely delicious in salads. But what other benefits do they hold? I am so glad that you asked.

Avocado oil is one of the very few oils that actually penetrates the hair shaft. Aside from being able to penetrate the shaft it also has a few other benefits.

Avocado oil is comprised of beneficial nutrients such as vitamin A, E and D, protein, copper, magnesium, iron, folic acid, and amino acids. All these nutrients are vital for hair growth and health. Avocado oil also conditions the hair and helps with moisture retention.

Avocado oil is also lightweight and adds a beautiful shine to tresses. This oil is used by women all over the world to achieve hair goals that include, strong, healthy, soft, and manageable hair.

The vitamins in the oil that coat the hair make it a great oil to apply after rinsing out conditioner (but before styling) to seal in the moisture that the conditioner has.

Bet you didn’t know that avocados could do all that, did you?

Avocado oil is also inexpensive and easily accessible so you have no excuse not to have a bottle in your medicine cabinet!

So pick up some today and say hello to healthy, beautiful hair!

I am certain that the majority of women would answer “yes” to this question.

Stains on nails can be a complete disaster. Do not fret friends, because I have some sure fire ways to rid your nails of this burden. Shall we?

Before we discuss how to get rid of the stains, let’s begin by talking about how we get them and how they can be prevented.

How do our nails get stained? Stained nails is a result of wearing a colored nail polish without a base coat or for an extended amount of time. TIP ALERT: Cheaper nail polish results in the staining. Higher end nail polish can be worn without a base coat and for longer and is less likely to stain. So, if you are like me and love nail polish, but do not want to spend your life’s saving on it, make wearing a base coat your priority.

Now, let’s remove those stains.

Lemon: Squeeze half a lemon into a bowl of warm water and soak nails for 15 mins. (For an extra boost, after squeezing the lemon, add the entire squeezed half).

Vinegar: (Same as lemon instructions). If after 15 mins they are still stained, repeat with vinegar and lemon.

Emery Board Buffing: Gently buff nails with the emery board and kiss your stains goodbye. Caution: Too roughly may damage nails.

Teeth Whitening Strips: Apply to nail for about 15 mins, then remove.

Enjoy your nails, ladies!

I wanted to answer these questions so that you have a clearer understanding. Let’s jump right in.

What is Henna? Henna (Lawsonia inermis, also called henna tree) or Hina is a flowering plant, the sole species in the genus Lawsonia in the family Lythraceae. Henna is made from a paste constructed from the plants leaves.

What is the purpose of Henna? Henna has been used since ancient times to color skin, hair, fingernails, leather, and wool.

Is Henna bad for the hair? No. It is a natural colorant and strengthener, and has all sorts of other benefits such as the reduction of dandruff, elimination of ringworm and head lice.

Ok, so now that we have a few facts on henna let’s discuss if using it is something that you may be interested in. Personally, I’m all for using all things natural on my hair and skin. That being said, henna is a definite two thumbs up.

You can use if you would like to strengthen your hair, like a natural protein treatment which is awesome. This is essential for people like myself who use heat regularly or have color or chemically treated hair.

Using henna as a dye is also effective for lighter hair. You can do, reddish, brown, or black colors. For darker hair, it will not lighten your hair, but will give it a tint of the color you choose.

So why not give henna a try? Your hair will thank you.

The weather is getting warmer so that means the drinks should be getting cooler!

One of my favorite spring and summer beverages are… Smoothies! I mean who doesn’t love a delicious ice cold smoother when the humidity and temperature reaches seemingly unbearable heights?

Video Overview

As awesome as smoothies are, you still must be careful of the ingredients that you put inside of them to that they remain a bit on the healthier side. Adding lots of sugar and dairy to your smoothie in combination with high temperatures is just asking for trouble such as possible dehydration. No one wants that on a day out at the beach.

So, I wanted to share with you 5 of my favorite healthy & tasty recipes:

1. Strawberry, Banana, Pineapple: All three of these fruits are VERY sweet so there will be no need to add more sugar. The banana gives the smoothie a creamy like substance so you also won’t need to add dairy either. Awesome!

2. Mango, Peach, Banana, and Kale: This mix is great! It tastes wonderful and the kale makes it super healthy. Just a tip, almost any time you add anything “green” to your smoothie, it will turn the color green. Trust me, you will not even taste the kale!

3. Acai, Pineapple, Kiwi: Acai is a superfruit with anti-oxidants that your body will love. Plus your taste buds will thank you.

4. Raspberry, Blueberry, Honey: Adding honey to your smoothie gives the sweet taste without all the yucky stuff that sugar has packed inside of it. It’s perfect to add it to any smoothie with berries because of their tart taste.

5. Kale, Kiwi, Broccoli, Banana, Pineapple: This smoothie has two amazing ingredients. The broccoli and kale mixed together will give you an energy boost, making days at the beach more enjoyable!

Happy sipping!
