November is right around the corner, and that means it will be American Diabetes Month. The project hopes to raise awareness about Type 2 diabetes and show Americans how they can prevent and manage the disease. According to a recent study, if immediate action is not taken to prevent this illness, one in three adults will have Type 2 diabetes by the year 2050. Fortunately, one of the best ways to manage and prevent diabetes is through diet.
Simple tips for adults that the study suggests include, monitoring carbohydrate intake, because that has a direct impact on blood-sugar levels; eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day; consuming smaller amounts of food throughout the day to maintain proper insulin and glucose levels; and eliminating sodas and other sugary beverages.
Americans have long since known about the benefits of a eating healthy, along with regular exercise. Sadly though, our society focuses more on quick-fix solutions to our problems, rather than long-term, preventative measures.
