CDC officials are issuing a warning to those planning a trip to the state fair this summer – beware of any sick looking pigs. 29 people have already become infected since last August with a new type of swine flu and many of them caught it by handling pigs at the state fair. Just over the past week the CDC has confirmed 12 more cases of the new strain H3N2, most of them infected at the Ohio state fair another 2 cases have been confirmed in Maine. The illness appears to be mild and does not frequently travel from human to human but the CDC advises caution. If you attend the fair this summer be sure to wash hands after contact with barnyard animals, do not eat or drink in animal pens and be on the look out for sick looking animals that have a runny nose, sneezing or watery eyes.
